Sun l’ha fatto davvero: ha cambiato il suo nome in Java!

Ho un amico che lavora alla Sun e quando mi chiedono che lavoro fa io rispondo:

– è consulente alla Sun
– come???
– lavora per quelli che hanno inventato Java
– cioè?
– è un esperto di sicurezza
– nel senso?
– fa la guardia giurata
– ah!

Una notizia che ha sconvolto il mercato internazionale (e per il dialogo di cui sopra un po’ meno me) è stata la recente decisione della Sun di cambiare il suo nome nel Nasdaq da SUNW a JAVA. La decisione è stata giustificata dai portavoce dell’azienda come una mossa strategica indispensabile visto che paradossalmente pochi conoscono il colosso Sun, mentre tanti hanno almeno sentito parlare per una volta nella loro vita di JAVA. Non la pensano così gli addetti ai lavori che poco entusiasti hanno assalito il blog di Jonathan Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer e Presidente di Sun, commentando così la notizia:

- I don't get it. Why would anyone want to change a perfectly respectable and easy to remember ticker to the name of a programming language? What happens when a new language usurps Java? You're left with an outdated irrelevant moniker. How ridiculous it would be if MSFT is changed to OFFC or IBM to LTUS.

- Just imagine Apple Computer using LISA as symbol. Bad idea
- This is the most laughable thing I've heard come out of Sun since the stock tanked six years ago
- Your engineers won't like it. Any sensible Techie won't like it.

Un fiume in piena di insulti e proteste verso il CEO responsabile della poco fortunata mossa di marketing. Forse oltre il nome dovrebbero cambiare anche il direttivo. Ma la cosa più strepitosa avviene quando cliccando in alto a destra si prova a cambiare la lingua del sito da Inglese a Italiano: tutti i commenti spariscono e anche l’articolo! da Thursday Aug 23, 2007

Un giorno memorabile per Solaris (in francese e russo idem, in tedesco e in spagnolo è sostituito da un articolo del 13 agosto, in arabo da uno del 17 agosto, mentre riappare curiosamente in portoghese:). Sarà un caso?Jonathan, Jonathan.. 😉
