La manifestazione è giunta ormai alla sua undicesima edizione ed è curata dalla Academy of Digital Arts e Sciences, un’organizzazione globale che comprende alcuni dei massimi esperti delle 70 categorie in gara. L’evento, che ha raccolto 8.000 votanti da oltre 60 Paesi, ha insignito del premio alla carriera il musicista David Bowie, il sito eBay, e Steve Chen e Chad Hurley, cofondatori di YouTube. Tra gli italiani si distinguono We Make Money Not Art di Fabio Iaschi, nella categoria Blog-Culture/Personal e Mono No Aware di Giuseppe la Spada, che si è aggiudicato il voto popolare del Webby People’s Voice per la categoria Websites-Net Art.
Balza subito agli occhi l’assenza dell’onnipresente/onnipotente Google che non vince in nessuna delle settanta categorie, mentre ottimi risultati ottiene sia Yahoo! che Mtv Networks.
